So here's a question. This place still likes hypothetical, doesn't it?

Say a while ago something happened to you. One of those should be impossible situations that you were nevertheless curious about. But you don't remember it too well so you were hoping that maybe lightning strikes twice. Just maybe, you'll get your chance to have it happen again and this time remember the situation with a bit more clarity than the last.

You're just that lucky-- it happens again by some act of divine providence.

But when it happens again everything about it feels strange. It's like looking into one of those funhouse mirrors. Everything about it is off. It feels wrong. You remember all of it this time and wonder, despite it being what you wanted, if you dearly wish you didn't. It makes you question yourself. Why would you want to have it happen again? Maybe there was a reason why you don't remember it happening the first time.

What would you do? What the hell kind of situation would you find yourself wanting to happen again? I'd like to know, if you don't mind.

I can't say I've had that happen to me. The most I've had is the feeling of deja vu.

If I had something happen like that though I don't think I'd ever want it happening again, even if I can't remember all the details. And if I don't remember... there must be a good reason why, right?

And what if neither event was anything particularly bad?

Memories fade after time, even the pleasant ones. It doesn't have to mean anything traumatic happened, I don't think.

Hm. I'm not sure. There's the chance that,despite it being something good, you may end up missing it even more than you did prior.

It's complicated. I didn't meet someone from my world, that's not what I'm referring to.

I'd ask how but I know this place is capable of doing the impossible.

Was he from one of those alternate universes I've heard mentioned in sci-fi books?

That's right.

There are people from his world here already.

That's got to be confusing. Thinking you know someone but they're actually a different "version."

How weird was it talking to yourself?

The only one who really matters for this example is so different from the one I know it doesn't get confusing.

It wasn't so bad, talking to him. At the time, I mean. The only problem was realizing how off everything was after the fact.

That's good at least. There's the off chance that people you aren't fond of won't know the real you if they come here too, so you can kind of remain incognito.

... I don't think I could have handled meeting another version of myself.

It's complicated but it's safe to say that no matter which world people come from, I would be immediately recognizable.

I don't care to remain incognito anyway.

[The homunculi stand out in no less than four different ways so he wouldn't even bother trying to hide it. He still defaults to calling himself a homunculus even though he's been here nearly a year, anyway.]

I wouldn't call it daring, exactly.
