008 Things Aquired - [text;]

So here's a question for all of you. What's the furthest you've been from home? Before coming here, I mean. This place doesn't count. I want to know how far people have traveled before coming here.

The name of the place you're from, the name of the place you like going. What your favorite city is called. Things like that.

I've always liked traveling. But I used to spend years in one place, even so. Always found myself drawn back to where I was born. It's one of those interesting things about people. I don't exactly miss the place, but I do find myself thinking about it sometimes. What it would be like if we could go back with memories of this place instead of forgetting everything.

So there's a second part of my question, I guess.

Say you go home, but you remember everything from here. What would you do with that information?

What if you arrived home at a time before the last thing you remember?

[...WELL, OKAY, YES, THERE'S THAT.]

Not much, no. Sometimes the most you can do is learn from it and move on, and try to do better in the future.

Being here like this...it's something of a second chance for you, isn't it?

I see... it must be more like continental Europe, then. London is honestly quite enormous on its own, but the Underground does help matters.

Ah, Second Magic is the operation of parallel worlds, and it permits you to travel between them. Only one person's really mastered it, though, and he has the benefit of being an unfathomably old vampire.

The ones I've met have been very nice. But then most of the time I usually have an easier time getting along with non-humans than humans.

I don't even know if they're still around, though.

You don't? What dating system do you use, then? On Earth at least, between those two you could go back thousands of years.

They tend to do that. Luckily, they're not particularly widespread, unless you like ruins.

Unfortunately, real specific things like numbers didn't stick in my brain, and my pokegear got switched out for a new one when I came back. I guess that's the price I pay for leaving for almost a year in this place's time.

Well, if it resembled a language I was familiar with, perhaps that could help me place it.

...Hmm... well, he's aged, but in that dignified older gentleman kind of way rather than anything resembling Nosferatu.

It really couldn't hurt to give it a shot.

And... yes, that is the dilemma, isn't it? It hardly seems worth it if you're not going to look good for eternity.

Likewise. It's lonely without you.

You could say that. I took up permanent residence in a different city to be closer to my work. Military, you see.

There are a few aspects that would make my life here completely ideal, but...yes, it does seem to be a common trend to prefer life here over home. Many of us seem to have come from difficult times in our lives, that being taken away from our troubles has done us some good. I imagine that is especially true for those who are no longer alive in their world.

What's that? Did I just read something that sounded suspiciously like thinking ahead?

How do I know I'm really talking to Greed now?

[Greed can probably tell the snide, teasing tone even through text. And he doesn't have a house because he just didn't feel like it okay!!]

You should get a big house anyway, why get anything else?

[He also can't let on that being included gives him a happy feeling shhh.]

[He forgives you, Greed. You're still somewhat of an enigma.]

That would be nice. But even if you don't, we can easily keep each other warm during the colder weather...

When I was still in training, my father used to take me with him if the assignment would allow. We've gone all over Japan mostly. I'd say the furthest he's ever taken me was to Kyushu which is on the southernmost tip of the country.

As for your second question... that's kind of surprising. If we arrived home sometime before we were taken, would that mean we'd be brought back again or does it mean we live out our lives without having been taken but with memories of being here?
