Character
Name: Greed
Series: Fullmetal Alchemist (2003)
Timeline: Episode 34, directly before meeting Dante in Lyra's body
Canon Resource Links: http://fma.wikia.com/wiki/Greed specifically, the section titled "2003". Several of the dub names are different in the 2003 anime versus the manga and 2009 anime both for places and people.
Personality: Like his name suggests, he's greedy. He says himself that he wants everything the world has to take. Women, money, status, power, eternal life-- he wants all of it. He's monumentally selfish and knows it and doesn't really care at all about Dante's goals. He doesn't want to become human, and he also doesn't want to exist as her pawn.
Having been created from the remains of Dante's human lover, Greed more than likely has access to his human memories just as the other homunculi are shown to have, though they're not indicated in the show itself. One can speculate, however, that most if not all of the memories he has have to deal with Dante and being her lover given his behavior towards her-- he's unable to harm Ed knowing that Dante is watching him and he inevitably finds himself drawn back to the place where he was born. It's part the fact that he really wants attention and also partially the fact that he desperately wants her attention in particular.
Somehow, despite being the homunculus that has spent the most time isolated and alone to think about revenge, Greed manages to be the least psychopathic of the seven homunculi. He's reasonably stable and though he doesn't seem especially bothered by the prospect of having to hurt or kill people, he does go out of his way to avoid it except in very specific circumstances, saying that it's "not his style." Included in this is his specific desire to avoid hurting women, which might have to do with his attachment to Dante.
Remarkably, despite his name being Greed and avarice being a key part of his personality, Greed genuinely seems to care for his friends. The chimera that he rescues from Lab 5 become incredibly loyal to him and he in turn is protective of them, urging his followers not to go through with suicidal attacks. It's probably in large part due to his own greed and selfishness that he dislikes seeing people be so selfless for his own sake. He's greedy and selfish and has trouble understanding why someone would want to die for him because he certainly doesn't want to die for someone else. Even so, he is clearly shown to mourn the loss of his followers and he urges Al to protect Marta after the death of the other chimera, also letting Al go in turn which effectively ends his search for getting his spirit attached to armor.
Maybe it's because he found himself getting attached to Al that he decided not to hurt him after all, it's not entirely clear, but it would make sense because he also knowingly engages in a fight with Ed that was extremely likely to end in his own death. To help Ed out and throw the ultimate wrench in Dante's plans, he's willing to die to give the information that the alchemist needs in order to defeat the other homunculi. That sheer amount of self sacrifice seems to be the antithesis of what Greed exists to be, but it's also not entirely surprising that a greedy man would ultimately want to die on his own terms rather than be imprisoned for centuries once more.
It's not accurate to call him a "good" person because of his selfishness and the fact that he was willing to kill Al to figure out how a spirit attachment is done, but his bond with the chimera is proof that he does genuinely care about people, as is the fact that he eventually let Al go when he was certain that his confrontation with Dante would end in the loss of his life. He's selfish but not unnecessarily cruel; this is an important distinction. He's not "good" but he's also not evil either, floating somewhere in between. He is extremely loyal to the chimeras he broke out of Lab 5 and would absolutely never betray them even in a situation where it would be advantageous for him to do so.
Greed's hideout with the chimera is in the basement of a dingy bar called The Devil's Nest, which says that he's not afraid of hanging out with outlaws. Unlike the other homunculi who treat humans like something beneath them, Greed is at least capable of a somewhat civil discussion. He makes it clear that he's extremely strong and not someone to be messed with, but he also is fairly content being around outlaws. He's shown with his arms around human women in the hideout while discussing what to do about Wrath. In general, he seems capable of genuinely getting along with people so long as they don't treat him like trash for being a homunculus or otherwise try to provoke him.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Being a homunculus, there is something about Greed that feels fundamentally incomplete. He's not human, and any memories he has of being human are in conflict with his current identity of something that is decidedly different. Because of the cognitive dissonance between indentifying as something not human but also remembering, however vaguely, what it's like to be human, the homunculi are full of self loathing and Greed isn't really that different in that regard. Sure, he may be one of the only homunculi who genuinely doesn't want to become human-- because then he wouldn't be able to be immortal and he wouldn't be able to get everything in the world, but he is also still partially the human he was before. He's still in love with Dante but is in complete denial over this given the fact that Dante is the one who imprisoned him and also created him, giving her extreme power over him that didn't exist when he had been her human lover. He might not even be aware of it entirely himself, but he still finds himself drawn to the woman even after she had kept him imprisoned for 130 years.
There are other weaknesses associated with his being a homunculus-- he is immortal so long as the red stones are in his body. Being killed repeatedly drains his life source as does walking into an alchemical array meant to bind him as it causes the homunculi to vomit the stones back up and leave him extremely weakened and mortal. He is also weakened by being exposed to the remains of the person he's supposed to be. Greed is shown to be capable of moving around them even while he is in obvious discomfort, but other homunculi are shown to be paralyzed when exposed to their remains or outright faint. This is something that won't apply to him in the setting, but it will nevertheless still affect him because he is aware of his weakness-- it's a profound reminder that he isn't human even if there's no actual risk for him.
Another weakness would be how attached to people Greed gets. It doesn't happen often, but when it does happen, he's very protective of the people who have allied with him and he has a tendency to take betrayal extremely personally. It's difficult to gain his trust, but once a person does, he's a fairly trusting man and that is something incredibly exploitable-- he was genuinely blindsided by Kimbley's betrayal despite earlier banter that seemed to hint towards him not entirely trusting the man.
In terms of strengths, Greed is the Ultimate Shield. Even though in terms of the setting he won't have access to such an ability, given that his power is an ability to make himself indestructible, it gives him a sense of confidence and ego. It makes him a formidable opponent and even without his Ultimate Shield, he is clearly an expert a hand to hand combat. Even when extremely vulnerable from both being drained of the stones in his body and exposed to his own remains he is a formidable opponent and would more than likely be capable of holding his own in a fight even without his abilities to alter the chemical makeup of his own body.
He's also extremely charismatic-- moments after breaking free from is prison in the basement of Lab 5, Greed was able to sway the chimera being held into the lab onto his side very quickly by promising the chance to get revenge against the people who experimented on them, and indeed he managed to get more than just the chimera on his side judging by the sheer amount of people who associate with him in his brief time at The Devil's Nest.
Another strength of sorts is how easygoing Greed is. For someone who is hiding out from someone who wants to kill or recapture him, he's extremely relaxed. He's more concern when the military attacked the Devil's Nest that his fight has been interrupted than being caught. Though this could also be easily turned into a weakness because of how overwhelmed he can get when he gets over his head. All sense of that relaxation melts away and he can become very distracted and frantic, eager to protect his allies.

This thing on?
[There's a murmur from off camera and the man grins, showing off a row of shark-like teeth.]
Excellent. Hello there. The name's Greed. I've just arrived here in... ah, what was it called? New Bark Town. Yeah, that's it.
I've got a couple of questions.
Are the women here always so stiff? I offered to buy this beautiful woman in a short skirt a drink and I thought she was about to slug me. Something about not bribing "an officer of the law."
[Shrug.]
If someone could be so kind as to tell me if there are any women around here who can have fun I'd appreciate it.
[Where to start? He needs to do something. Dante can't stop him here. The other homunculi can't stop him here. He'll create his very own little kingdom.
Of course, he can't very well broadcast that to a bunch of strangers, can he? No, this is something he'll keep to himself. It'll be his little secret. His little surprise for this place.]
Oh, right. One more question: are there any bars nearby?
A man's gotta have a drink.
Third Person Sample: He had just stepped foot inside Dante's house. That much Greed knew for sure. It had been night out, and he had expected that things were not going to end well for him. But he hadn't even gotten a chance to see the old woman. Whatever happened, he supposed he wasn't going to complain.
More than likely, he would have died. But here, he had a chance. Some sort of chance, anyway. He felt... different somehow. He couldn't exactly tell what felt different, but it was there. And there had been a cat sleeping on the foot of the bed when he had woken up that brightened and meowed at him as soon as it saw he was awake. "Hello there," he said, reaching out to pet at the cat curiously. It had something on its head that looked strangely like a coin, but one brush of a thumb against it revealed that whatever it was, it was firmly attached to the cat's head.
"What's your name?" he asked the cat, smirking.
The cat responded with what Greed thought was a very strange meow. Oh, well. A cat was still a cat as far as Greed was concerned. "Well, if you don't have one, I'm going to call you Marta," he said, smiling just slightly. Hopefully the real Marta was doing fine. He had failed the others. The last thing that he wanted to do was find out that she had gotten hurt, too. If Al didn't keep her safe, he'd...
Well. He couldn't do anything here.
Normally, this sort of thing would bother him, but he was Greed. He had been prepared to die, but now dying didn't sound like such a good idea. He wanted to live. He wanted to find out where he was, and he was going to be taking the cat with him. Hopefully no one would miss it because he wasn't about to give it back.
That and he needed to figure out where the hell that music was coming from.
For now Greed was going to figure out where exactly he was. It wasn't much fun having to start over from the beginning. He didn't even have the opportunity to get help this time. "Say, Marta," Greed said, speaking even though he was certain the cat couldn't really understand him. "What if I were to tell you that I want you to help me find something? Find our very own pile of riches. If it's just between you and me-- well, maybe I won't mind sharing."
It had to be impossible, but he could have sworn the cat's eyes gleamed.
