Maybe I should look for a comfort food cookbook, huh?
[Of course Johto comfort food would probably be different from what Heather has been showing him-- at least he thinks so. Greed can't know for certain. And every recipe in the book is bound to have a horrible pun name, but you know what?
[Every culture has its cuisines and Johto's no different-- but grilled cheese is great no matter where you get it from.]
Wouldn't be a bad idea!
[... DING. Christmas gift idea.]
[... And she'll just take a moment to inwardly snicker at the thought of Greed with his shades and stupid leather jacket opening a pretty wrapped box and finding a cookbook inside.]
[Yep. It's decided. This is happening.]
I'm no professional. Me and my dad tended to go for a lot of takeout. But the simple stuff, I like to think I'm pretty damn good at.
[More sizzling happens as Heather slaps her own sandwich down to grill.]
This city's got the best takeout anywhere. 'Cept maybe for Olivine, I guess, but Olivine's smaller, so less variety.
S'kinda part of the Trainer lifestyle to eat a lotta that stuff, to be honest. When you're traveling all over the place, it's easier to grab burgers and noodles on the go than to stop and actually cook.
[Which makes decent home-cooked food a rare and beloved treat. Heather can't remember the last time she had much of any past France's cooking at the bonfire... god, had it really been that one Thanksgiving at the farm in Saffron?]
[It's sad to think back that far. Almost all those people are gone now...]
[He's been living off of takeout for months. It's kind of an odd feeling having a home-cooked meal, but Lust has cooked them enough that Greed genuinely enjoys them. It feels real and familiar, and it's something the chimeras would have enjoyed so he supposes this just brings him closer to them.]
When you're a Trainer, you're expected to be constantly on the move, huh? That's an advantage to being a Breeder, I suppose. You don't need to move around so much.
...even if I've never done what I'm supposed to do here.
I mean, nobody, like, sends the Jennies after you or something if you decide to settle down, but it's definitely considered a little bit odd. Travel is big, to these people.
[Pulling her sandwich out of the pan, she slaps it down on another plate and waits for it to cool a bit. Nothing's worse than scalding the roof of your mouth on hot cheese.]
I won't lie, I kinda like livin' on the road. I never did have a real long-term home, even where I came from.
I never really had one either. [Home had been where her father was. And sometimes not even that. Harry Mason was the best father anyone could ask for, but not even he could stop that life of paranoia and secrecy from being awfully lonely for a teenage girl.]
[One side of her mouth quirks up a little bit, though. Envy's family. It's the first time anybody's really said that out loud, but she supposes it's true. Envy had joined the sprawling, tangled web of friends-turned-family in Heather's life quite some time ago even if they've never acknowledged it verbally.]
[It's really early in the morning. Like "3AM" early in the morning. But Naki's discovered something and he really needs to talk to someone and Tsukiyama was asleep the last time he called him at three in the morning. So here we are and Naki is texting Greed at this ungodly hour.]
R U AWAKE
[...Hopefully your device doesn't have sound turned on so you can ignore him until a decent hour, sorry about that.]
[This might not seem like that big of a deal, especially since this is coming from Naki, who seems like he couldn't give two shits about other people. You'd be right about that, but Naki cares an awful lot about being left alone. And guess what, with Henry gone, there's no one else in the Rocket base that he's on really good terms with.
Again, be thankful that this is over text and not video.]
WHAT IF SOMEONE ELSE LEAVES WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THEN
HENRY SHOWED UP HERE AT THE SAME TIME I DID
WHAT IF I GO HOME NEXT I DONT WANT TO GO HOME
[It's kind of hard to get his distress across properly through text, but he's panicking really badly right now.]
[It's not like Greed is emotionally dead, far from it, but he doesn't want to deal with this. He likes Naki, but that's because Greed likes everybody. He just doesn't want to be the one people deliberately seek out for comfort.
That being said, ignoring this doesn't seem like an option.]
I don't know if we can control when we poof out of this place, but I've been here since April of last year and haven't gone anywhere.
Him going doesn't mean you'll be leaving. It sucks, loosing a friend, I understand.
[But it's pretty much the only thing Naki's good at!!]
YEAH IT IS
I MEAN AT LEAST THIS WAY HE JUST WENT HOME
AND HIS HOME SOUNDED PRETTY FUCKING COOL SO IM SURE HES HAPPY
[It's not like what happened with Yamori; Henry is still alive, he just doesn't remember what happened here. That sucks, but it's better than him dying.]
