A year ago today, I found myself in this place. I thought of it as a new beginning, an escape. It's still an escape, really. I didn't think I'd be around here for very long, honestly, after hearing that people don't tend to stick around here for very long.

Yet here I am.

Kinda amazing, huh?

Anyway, I figured I'd say something about today; I'd rather like to consider it my birthday. I don't know what my real one is, so I might as well use the day I arrived here.

A whole year.

Here's to getting lucky and having a second one in this place.

I imagine it's odd the longer a person has been here.

I know a few people who have been here for years. It'll be five years this autumn, I believe. That's incredibly hard to believe.

I wasn't too sure about this place at first, but I certainly like it now.

I'm pretty fond of it, to tell you the truth. I'm sure there are plenty of people who agree with me. There are those who want to return home, but personally I have no desire to go back.

As old as I am, a year shouldn't feel like very long and yet, if I'm being perfectly honest, plenty has happened to change my mind about that.
